Interview With Robert Weissman of Public Citizen

Last week I attended a conference in New Orleans called "FEC v. Citizens United: The End of Democracy As We Know It?" The conference discussed and debated the significance of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. The decision ended limits on corporate spending for political campaigns, citing First Amendment rights to free speech.

That decision has been one of the most important and controversial developments in national politics of the past few years. The debate was furthered at last week's event, where delegates from each side of the argument stated their cases.

Robert Weissman, president of the public advocacy group Public Citizen, argued against the Citizens United decision. I had the chance to interview Mr. Weissman, who was gracious enough to discuss with me the work his organization does and why he thinks Citizens United is so harmful.
